Distance Learning/ Home Study
Distance learning comprises of the study of both Yoga and Anatomy and Physiology, using a combination of manuals and online E-learning. This enables you to do this part of your study in your own time in the comfort of your own home and fit it into your lifestyle.
This part of the course introduces you in readiness for your practical training (through our 310 page yoga manual) to aspects of yoga such as
- what is yoga?
- how did yoga evolve
- ancient practices and history of yoga
- yoga philosophy/from dualism to non dualism
- devotion/mantra
- action without reward/karma yoga
- energy and how to work with yoga practices to prepare for higher practices
- cleansing techniques to purify the body/kriyas
- asanas to build strength health and concentration teaching samyama (concentration/meditation/ecstacy)
- pranayama/breathing techniques to awaken energy centres
- chakras, nadis and kundalini
- health benefits of Hatha Yoga practices
- lineages and styles of yoga
- classical yoga/Patanjalies Yoga Sutras
- meditation with and without seed (thought or object)
- introduction to Sanskrit
- personal practice and responsibilities of teaching yoga
- structure and form of modern hatha yoga classes
- common conditions found in yoga
You will also be required to write a personal practice journal to chart your own experience of the hatha yoga practices.
You will receive a pranayama CD to help guide you through simple techniques in preparation for further practices on the course.
You will receive a Hatha Flow DVD to introduce anyone who has not practiced vinyasa style hatha practices.
This part of the study takes 3-6 months.
